My younger sister gave birth to the most precious and beautiful little girl this morning! I cannot wait to get to her and get my hands on the newest addition to our family. As the oldest of the three girls, I've come to be known as the disciplinarian among my nephews and nieces, but, also, the auntie that will spoil the heck out of you at the same time. The love that I have for my nephews and nieces is absolutely indescribable. They are all my babies. The oldest ones spent quite a bit of time with my when they were younger - so much so, that my husband thought they were all mine when we first started dating :) Brave man for asking me out for a second date...LOL
I came across the following poem and it very adequately expresses how I feel when it comes to my nieces and nephews.

Aunties' Prayer
Dear Lord,
My nephews and nieces capture my heart.
Thank you for the opportunity to
mentor,
encourage,
and to teach
these young people who are so dear to me.
Help me
to make wise decisions as
an aunt,
a mentor,
a confidante,
a role model,
and, sometimes,
a pinch hitter for their overwhelmed parents.
Show me how
to step back,
to teach with a cool head,
and a warm heart.
Allow me
to remind these beloved children
that they are always welcome in my home.
Guide me
to serve you through my busy day
in a manner that honors you.
In Jesus’ name I pray and thank you for your blessings.
Amen.
