We've all heard the stories about extreme "couponers" and how they can buy hundreds, sometimes even thousands of dollars worth of groceries and other consumer products for pennies on the dollar. Perhaps you're one yourself. Either way, a large part of success comes from knowing where to find the really good coupons, often the kind that go unnoticed by most shoppers.


Here's a look at some great places to find great coupons that are often overlooked:

Grocery Receipts

Some of the most overlooked coupons are printed on the back of grocery receipts. These are quite valuable for a couple of reasons. First, they are generally coupons that either offer $1 or more off on some items, or percentage discounts that can really add up to big savings.

Second, these are targeted coupons based on the items you've just purchased. They include great savings on the items you're likely to consume or use quickly and will need to replace sooner or later. Overlooking receipt coupons can cost you real money at the check stand.


Peel-off Coupons


A great way for manufacturers to attract potential buyers for new or revamped products is to affix an instant, peel-off coupon directly to the packaging. These coupons are on dozens of items throughout your local grocery stores and generally offer a decent discount on the featured product. Simply peel the coupon off the container and hand it to the cashier at checkout for instant savings.

You'll also find these coupons on coffee and soda cups at convenience stores and fast food restaurants. Even grocery stores that have these products and services have coupons in their deli and bakery areas that have self-serve areas.

Manufacturer's Websites


Manufacturers use printable coupons as a means of marketing their products online and it doesn't take too long poking around their websites to find them. In addition to printable coupons, there are also many offers for samples and trial-size packaging for a wide range of products. These offers are readily available and are becoming more prominent as manufacturers compete against each other for your business. Just a few minutes on the internet can yield big savings for you and your family.

Product Packaging


Many products, particularly health and beauty products have coupons printed on the inside of the packaging. Occasionally, a loose coupon is included inside a package, but more likely than not they are printed on the inside of the package. These coupons are quite valuable and typically for the same product just purchased. Cold and flu medicines, particularly children's brands, are great for these types of coupons.

Grocery Store Shelves


Sometimes we can't see the forest for the trees. Right in plain sight, in dozens of locations throughout your local grocery store, are electronic coupons dispensers. They are generally right below the product in question, and are yours for the taking. Sometimes, however, we're so focused on checking prices, reading labels, and comparing brands we stare right past these manufacturer's coupons even as we're picking up the very item from the shelf.

These types of coupons are valuable for a couple of reasons. For starters they usually offer a decent discount. Additionally, and because they're manufacturer's coupons, you'll find similar coupons on complementary products, particularly those types of products that will serve as ingredients in a complete meal. These can really save you money, and as soon as you start noticing them in your local grocery store, the sooner you'll start seeing them everywhere you look.
